In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, quantum technologies play a crucial role in global advancement. For Armenia, the development of highly skilled specialists in quantum physics is essential for strengthening national security, science, secure communications, and advanced technologies. Recognizing this need, the “My Step” Foundation launched the “Quanta” Master’s Degree Program in Quantum and Mesoscopic Physics in 2022.
Developed through a collaboration between leading academic institutions, including the Physics-Engineering Institute at the Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University, the Institute for Physical Research at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and the Chair of General Physics and Quantum Nanostructures at the Armenian-Russian University, this pioneering program equips students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in the field of quantum physics. The program’s academic supervisor is Professor Hayk Sargsyan, a PhD in Physico-Mathematical Sciences and Honored Figure of Science of the Republic of Armenia.
The program brings together top-tier specialists from leading international universities, alongside leading Armenian scientists from Yerevan State University, the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and other research institutions.
The first cohort of students successfully defended their Master’s theses in February 2024, earning state diplomas. Their research has already begun to make an impact, with scientific publications in prestigious journals, including ACS Appl. Nano Mater and the Journal of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. Of these graduates, nine are now employed in various research centers across Armenia, actively contributing to national research and development in quantum technologies. The second cohort, consisting of 11 students, is currently continuing their studies.
Looking ahead, the program is set to expand its academic reach—starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, the “Quanta” Master’s Degree Program will be conducted in partnership with Yerevan State University, further solidifying Armenia’s expertise in quantum research and enhancing its capacity to develop secure, future-proof technologies in cybersecurity, sceince and other infrastructure.
