My Step Charitable Foundation aims to support couples challenged in their family building journey by working towards making In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) more accessible. This effort is especially important in the context of improving the demographics of Armenia.

Background

According to official statistics, the fertility rate in Armenia has been low during recent years - around 1.6. In 2017, the infertility rate was 16.8%, and the population growth rate was -0.21, which is insufficient even to maintain the current size of the population.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to treat infertility or genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. Although, IVF is the most common type of assisted reproductive technology (ART), we aim to additionally combat the issue of infertility by raising public awareness on reproductive health, improving the quality and accessibility of reproductive healthcare, improving social conditions, decreasing environmental hazards etc. In a country with 25.7% poverty rate (data from 2017) and per capita average monthly income of $120, IVF and other ART procedures are beyond reach for most families.

Project Goal

Taking into consideration the importance of fostering the growth of the population in Armenia, My Step Foundation intends to contribute to the reduction of infertility in Armenia by making IVF more accessible for couples with no children.

Project Activities

  • Receive and manage applications of potential beneficiaries,

  • Process applications and select beneficiaries by Expert Committee based on established criteria;

  • Provide funding to cover IVF costs.

Note: The project does not cover the costs of medication, donor sperm/donor egg, or surrogacy.

Expected Outcome/Impact

The project will provide opportunities for more couples in their family building journey by making IVF more accessible, which will have a long-term impact on the demographics of the country.
