Head of the Chair of General Physics and Quantum Nanostructures at the Armenian-Russian University, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Davit Hayrapetyan teaches “Quantum Nanostructures” within the scope of the “Quantum” Master’s Degree Program in Quantum and Mesoscopic Physics. Hayrapetyan was among those who helped establish the Program and had a great desire to be involved in the teaching process as an active scientist in the sector of nanostructures.
“The subject allows one to understand the types of semiconductor nanostructures and the sectors in which it is applied. Over the past few years, semiconductor nanostructures are studied as objects for getting qubics, which lie at the core of quantum computing. The students and I study the common features so that they can continue to conduct research in this sector in the future,” the professor said.
Hayrapetyan noted that one of the advantages of the “Quanta” Program is that it not only helps use the resources in Armenia, but also engages professionals from abroad. According to him, this approach empowers the students’ minds and fosters full mastery of the profession which, in its turn, will promote development of the sector in Armenia.
“This is one of the paths to take to prepare specialists, who will go on to make their contributions to Armenian economy and establish their own companies,” he stated.
According to the physicist, the world is experiencing the second quantum revolution, and the quantum physics area is very current now. Taking this into consideration, advanced countries are investing large amounts of money in the quantum technologies sector.
“Armenia is also making its contribution to the sector through this Program. It is very important for people in Armenia to have access to quantum technology. The level of development of the IT sector shows that Armenia is capable of doing something in the quantum technology sector. We have to set the bar and achieve it,” Hayrapetyan emphasized.
According to Davit Hayrapetyan, the students pursuing studies through the “Quanta” Program clearly know the road that they are going to take, and most of them have the goal of continuing their career in science. Besides, interaction with the students is not limited to lectures. They also discuss the opportunities in the world that they can use after becoming specialists in the future.
